Proposed changes to Youth Allowance

In the 2008-2009 Federal Budget, important changes were made to Family Assistance payments.

Legislation to introduce the Government's proposed changes to student payments, including the introduction of new scholarships, has not been approved by Parliament. This means current rules for Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY continue to apply.

Changes to the Community Development Employment Project (CDEP) program

On 19 December 2008, the Australian Government announced reforms to the CDEP program as part of a new integrated approach to employment services for Indigenous Australians.

Australian Government LPG Grant

The LPG Grant helps motorists:

  • buy a new LPG vehicle
  • convert a new or used vehicle to LPG.

Changes to Carer Payment (caring for a child under 16 years) from 1 July 2009

The Australian Government recognises the importance of improving the support and services available to carers. From 1 July 2009, changes have been introduced to Carer Payment (caring for a child under 16 years), which will allow more carers to access Carer Payment and will improve support for existing customers.
