Seasonal Work Preclusion Period
The Seasonal Work Preclusion Period (SWPP) applies to some social security payments paid by Centrelink including Newstart Allowance and Youth Allowance.
The SWPP will be applied to people who have finished seasonal, intermittent or contract work.
With the SWPP people whose average wage during a period of work is more than the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) will have a waiting period calculated when they make a new claim for payment. It is designed to allow people with sufficient funds to support themselves before payments start.
Centrelink will need details such as when did the work start and finish, how much money was earned and the employer or company name. The information can be provided by completing a Seasonal, Intermittent or Contract Work form. The information provided by the customer will also need to be verified by the employer.
