Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme

On this page

What is the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme?

The Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) provides assistance to shippers of eligible goods, transported by sea between Tasmania and the Australian mainland, with the aim of reducing the freight cost disadvantage imposed by Bass Strait.

The Scheme operates under a set of Directions issued by the Minister for Transport and Regional Services. The Tasmanian Assistance Services administers the Scheme, from Centrelink's Hobart office, on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.
