Below are some general questions about eligibility to apply for jobs in Centrelink.


Are you an Australian citizen?

You must be an Australian citizen to work for Centrelink. An Australian birth certificate or passport, or in the case of applicants born outside Australia, a Certificate of Australian Citizenship must be sighted.

Do you consent to Centrelink undertaking a Police Record check?

We check police records to determine if the person to be employed (as an employee, contractor, consultant, work experience or field placement student) has a record of any criminal charges, convictions or findings of guilt. If the person is already employed and the outcome of the checks is not satisfactory, their employment will be terminated immediately.

Do you consent to a Security check if one is required?

Some positions may require prospective employees to undertake a security assessment.

Do you consent to a Health check?

A health clearance is a condition of engagement for all ongoing employees to determine if the employee is medically fit to perform the duties for which they are engaged. This involves a medical examination performed by Health Services Australia or another provider approved by Centrelink.

Did you answer no to any of these questions or have you taken a Voluntary redundancy in the last twelve months?

If you answered 'no' to any of the questions above or you have taken a Voluntary redundancy from an APS or Commonwealth Agency in the last twelve months you may not be eligible to apply for employment with Centrelink. A person who has received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency or a non-APS Commonwealth employer may not be engaged as an APS employee within twelve months of ceasing employment.
