Our program

Department of Human Services has created a National Graduate Program to attract people with specific tertiary qualifications to join our team, so we can ensure we have the workforce we need. We are looking for standout performers to lead us into the future.

The program runs for 12 months and will provide you with:

  • on-the-job training and work experience through a minimum of 2 work placements within the Department of Human Services. This is designed to develop your skills and a broad understanding of the business and service delivery with the Australian community.
  • an accredited learning and development program that will develop your skills as an Australian Public Servant (APS) employee, support your career development and enable you to obtain a Diploma in Government.
  • a coaching and senior mentoring program to support your longer term career and personal development.
  • the opportunity to visit a Centrelink/Medicare Australia office or Call Centre that is located outside your normal place of work so you can gain a better understanding of the Department of Human Services portfolio and services we offer.
  • the opportunity, most importantly, to meet a network of new mates and forge friendships for life.

The added bonus is that the Department of Human Services National Graduate Program will guarantee you a permanent position once you have completed the program. And that's not all...with most positions in Canberra you will probably get the opportunity to relocate outside of your home town and experience other areas that Australia has to offer. As Centrelink also has offices across Australia, positions could be located beside the sea or in the hustle and bustle of our State capital City Business Districts (CBDs) - the opportunities are endless.

As a Centrelink employee you will be contributing to the Australian Government's Agenda and assisting people to become self-sufficient and supporting those in need. If you are capable, flexible, focused, ethical and have a passion for delivering services to Australians in need - we want to hear from you.
