Information Technologyphoto of graduates

Centrelink is one of Australia's 100 leading IT users, ranked number four in Australia for the size of our IT network distributions.

The IT Group provides the backbone for customer interaction, allowing Centrelink to deliver services on behalf of 22 key agencies and distribute more than $66.3 billion in assistance to Australians each year.

On a typical day, Centrelink's IT Group supports:

  • 31 800 desktops
  • 14 million customer records
  • 400 LAN servers
  • a network of over 22 000 users
  • the processing of 25 terabytes (i.e 25 million megabytes) of knowledge data each week, and
  • the generation of 12 million online transactions each day, with an average response time of less than three seconds when a systems availability of 99.9 per cent in business hours.

In other words - it's big.

For IT graduates, there are three fields, giving you the chance to specialise in whatever tasks spark your interest.

Infrastructure

This field is focussed on ensuring the provision of a modern technical platform and capability for service delivery, allowing the rest of Centrelink to function to the best of our abilities. The two Infrastructure branches, Projects and Operations, work on making the imagined not only possible, but fully realised.

Business Analysis

Working hand in hand with Centrelink business teams responsible for policy, the Business Analysts use their IT knowledge and skills to determine how to integrate new initiatives into existing systems. They translate business requirements into systems solutions.

Technical Programming

Centrelink technicians constantly take advantage of emerging technologies - to allow IT services to be delivered more cost effectively, and to minimise the levels of business and technical risk. Working in this stream means being at the business end of the keyboard, liaising with internal clients to provide best practice solutions and programming to move Centrelink into the future.

We're continually looking for fresh ideas and with Centrelink you'll always have the opportunity to share yours.
