Psychologyphoto of graduate

As a graduate psychologist you will be assisting customers to maximise their work potential by developing assessment techniques and assessing people with broad psychological and psychiatric conditions.

Graduates with a minimum four-year psychology qualification could expect to work in Centrelink's National Support Office in Canberra or the Centrelink Network directly assisting customers in a Customer Service Centre that are located across Australia.

As a psychologist at Centrelink you can expect to work on a wide variety of projects utilising your research and data analysis skills. This could include analysing various types of customer data to inform service delivery, developing customer service or stakeholder management strategies, being involved in the implementation of new government policies or researching the latest trends and practices in the social security or welfare field. You may also be given the opportunity to utilise your skills and knowledge in organisational psychology by working in HR on projects related to workplace health, leadership and training and development.

You may also find yourself helping your peers by providing training on customer interviewing techniques, running stress management workshops, developing and delivering training material in relation to psychology management, as well as general support when it comes to ethical issues, privacy and dealing with customer aggression.

Centrelink also offers psychology graduates the two years required supervision to become registered with the psychology boards, this opportunity is available after the successful completion of the National Graduate Program.

We're continually looking for fresh ideas and with Centrelink you'll always have the opportunity to share yours.
