January 2006 NSW and VIC Bushfires
Centrelink provided assistance to people who lost their homes in the 2006 New Year weekend bushfires in New South Wales and Victoria.
Ex-gratia payments of $1,000 per adult and $400 per child were made available to eligible people who as a direct result of the fires were unable to live at their principal residence because it had been destroyed, rendered uninhabitable due to significant structural damage, or rendered uninhabitable due to lack of power and/or water.
