Queensland Storms and Flooding Assistance January & February 2008

The Australian Government is providing immediate, one-off financial assistance to Australians affected by the recent disasters below:

  • 14 February 2008 Mackay and Central Queensland flooding and/or
  • 13 January 2008 Queensland Storms and Floods.

About the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment

Given the devastation caused by the disasters below:
  • 14 February 2008 Mackay and Central Queensland flooding and/or
  • 13 January 2008 Queensland Storms and Floods
the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) has been activated to assist people who have been adversely affected by the disaster.

Payments of $1000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child will be made available if:
  • you were seriously injured and admitted to hospital for treatment for a period of 48 hours or more, or
  • your principal place of residence has been destroyed, or damaged
as a direct result of the recent flooding in Queensland.

Other assistance

Queensland Storms and Floods 13 January 2008:

  • If you can demonstrate genuine hardship as a result of the storms and flooding, you can apply for a small grant for essential items. Contact the Queensland Department of Communities on 1800 440 074.
  • The Australian Government has also approved further financial assistance to help small businesses and farmers through the QRAA. For further information on natural disaster relief assistance for small businesses contact 1800 623 946.
  • Members of the public are able to make donations to the Premiers Disaster Relief Appeal through any branch of the Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ or National Australia Bank.
