South East Queensland Storms - November 2008

The Australian Government is providing immediate, additional assistance to the people of South East Queensland seriously affected by the storms that ravaged the area on Sunday 16 November.

About the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment

Given the devastation caused by the storms that began on 16 November 2008 in South East Queensland, the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) has been activated to assist people who have been adversely affected by the disaster.

Payments of $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child will be made available to people:
  • who were seriously injured, and were admitted to hospital for treatment for a period of 48 hours or more, or
  • whose principal place of residence has been destroyed, or damaged
as a direct result of the recent storms in South East Queensland that began on 16 November 2008.

Claiming

Form

Once you have printed and completed the form, you can take it to your nearest Centrelink Customer Service Centre or Centrelink Agent,

or

  • Mail the form to the following address:
    South East QLD Storms Processing Centre
    Locked Bag No. 5
    Wallsend NSW 2287.

Online

If you are not already registered for Centrelink online services, you will need to register to make an online claim. Once you have registered you can logon using the online claim button at the top right of this page.

Telephone claim

Community recovery centres

Please Note: Recovery centres will be closing on Wednesday 17 December. Centrelink staff will no longer be at any of the recovery centres.

Recovery centres have been established at:

  • Ashgrove - Baptist Church, 7 Firhill Street, Ashgrove - Monday to Friday 2 pm to 7 pm
  • Everton Hills - Police Citizen Youth Club, 135A Olearia Street West, Everton Hills - Monday to Friday 2 pm to 7 pm
  • Ipswich - Level 2, Hayden Building, Cnr South and East Street, Ipswich - Monday to Friday 2 pm to 7 pm
  • Narangba - Community Hall, 229 Mackie Road, Narangba - Monday to Friday 2 pm to 7 pm
  • Rosewood - State High School, 46 Lanefield Road, Rosewood - Monday to Friday 2 pm to 7 pm

24-hour telephone for all Community recovery centres: 1800 173 349

People can also go to their nearest Centrelink Customer Service Centre, where Centrelink staff will help people with their claims for the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment and any other Centrelink assistance.
