Steps in claiming
Step 1
You should download the Claim Information for Youth Allowance and Austudy form as this contains important information about your claim that you must read before lodging your claim for Youth Allowance. You will also be asked to declare that you are aware of the Privacy notice contained within the Claim Information for Youth Allowance and Austudy form in the Customer's Declaration section of your claim for Youth Allowance.
Step 2
If you are studying full time or undertaking a full time Australian Apprenticeship you should take the following steps. If you have not recently been receiving Austudy either:
- Logon to Online Services (if you already have a CAN and password), or
- Register for Online Services.
If you have been receiving a Centrelink payment within the past 14 days:
Step 3
Throughout the claim you will be asked a series of questions about your circumstances. This information is required to assess your entitlement. The types of questions asked will include the bank account that you would like to have your payments made into and your tax file number.
Step 4
When you complete the questions you will be asked to review your responses and accept a declaration stating that the information that you have provided is correct.
You will then be advised of the verification documents and forms that you will need to provide to Centrelink. You are given 14 days to provide these documents but the sooner Centrelink has them the sooner your claim will be processed.
