Indigenous Ambassadors Programme
The Indigenous Ambassadors Programme was initiated to inform Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples about payments and programmes available from the agencies under the Department of Human Services.
What are the aims of the Indigenous Ambassadors Programme?
The programme aims to:
- further strengthen the Government's commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- improve the delivery of vital Government services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- complement the Department's already extensive network of Indigenous specialist staff.

Who are the Indigenous Ambassadors?
At present, there are four Indigenous Ambassadors – Rugby League legend, Arthur Beetson, Olympic hurdler, Kyle Vander-Kuyp, women’s Touch Football champion, Bo de la Cruz, and Sydney Swans AFL star, Michael O' Loughlin.

What is the role of an Indigenous Ambassador?
The role of an Indigenous Ambassador is to visit and talk face to face with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Ambassadors will:
- help build awareness of government services
- learn, first-hand, how service delivery can be improved and tailored to better meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- provide feedback to the Minister of Human Services and its agencies.
