Citizenship testing
The Australian Government introduced a computer-based citizenship test in 2007 that most people who apply for Australian citizenship are required to sit.
The test will comprise 20 multiple choice questions and is based on information in the citizenship test resource book. The resource book is available free of charge from the Department of Immigration and Ciitizenship (DIAC).
Citizenship testing is conducted in DIAC's 13 customer service outlets located in capital cities and major regional centres. In locations where DIAC does not have an office, Centrelink and Medicare Australia assist by providing facilities where testing can be carried out.
Centrelink has provided access to facilities in 4 locations:
- Coffs Harbour - 21—25 Duke Street, Coffs Harbour, NSW, 2450
- Newcastle - 279 King Street, Newcastle, NSW, 2302
- South Hedland - Corner of Brand and Tonkin Street, South Hedland, WA, 6722
- Illawarra Call Centre (Wollongong) - Level 4 and 5, 43 Burelli Street, Wollongong, NSW, 2500
Only customers with a citizenship testing appointment will be seen by the onsite DIAC official who will administer and supervise the tests.
