Payments after someone has died
Bereavement Payment may be available to help you after the death of:
- a child or someone in your care
- your partner.
The last instalment of a single person's payment may be paid to their estate.
There are other payments that may be available after the death of your partner:
- Bereavement Allowance (partner) - a payment after your partner's death.
- Pension Bonus Bereavement Payment - for the surviving partner of a deceased Pension Bonus Scheme member who did not make their claim for Age Pension and Pension Bonus before they died.
- Widow Allowance - for women aged 50 and over who are widowed, divorced or separated and have no recent work experience.
There are also payments that may be available if you are caring for a child where one or both of the child’s parents have died:
- Family Tax Benefit - for parents or guardians to help with the cost of raising children.
- Double Orphan Pension - a non means tested payment which helps you meet the costs of caring for a child where both parents are deceased, or one parent is deceased and the other parent is unable to care for the child/ren.
