Special Disability Trusts
Future planning for sons and daughters with a severe disability
This type of trust is established for succession planning by immediate family members for the future care and accommodation needs of a person with a severe disability.
The Government has introduced this initiative to assist immediate family members of people with severe disabilities to make a private financial provision, through a Special Disability Trust, for the future care and accommodation needs of that person with a severe disability.
This initiative allows immediate family members, of Age Pension age, to give to a complying Special Disability Trust (SDT) and receive up to the value of $500,000 (combined) exempt from the deprivation provisions.
This exemption is for age or service pension customers from Centrelink or the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
The Government has also introduced taxation concessions for Special Disability Trusts.
