Media release (National):
‘Tis the season to register for Centrelink online services
Monday, 6 December, 2010
Centrelink General Manager Hank Jongen is encouraging customers to avoid the Christmas rush and register for Centrelink’s online services before the holiday period begins.
Mr Jongen said once registered, customers can take care of some of their Centrelink business without waiting in a queue.
“Most people find there is never enough time in the day – especially around the holiday season.
“Once registered, Centrelink customers can use online services to lodge claims for a number of payments or update their personal information.
“Centrelink also has recently improved how some job seekers can report changes in their circumstances and declare earnings.
“Many job seekers reporting earnings and changes in circumstances can now do so either from home or using self-service facilities in their local Centrelink office before they attend their appointments.
“This means they can complete administrative tasks from home, allowing staff to really focus on outcomes, not processes, during face-to-face interviews.”
Mr Jongen said it’s easy to get started with Centrelink’s online services.
“You just need to register – this can be done in Online Services section, over the phone or in person at any Centrelink office.
“All Centrelink offices are equipped with self-service computers so customers who don’t have a computer at home can still access online services.
“We also have staff available to help customers learn about how to access online services and to show them what services they can use based on their individual circumstances.”
Customers can find more information about Centrelink’s public holiday arrangements over Christmas and New Year at Public holiday payment arrangements.
