Sydney’s Sue MacAndrew is on top of the world after receiving a Centrelink 2010 Australia Day Achievement Award in the category of ‘Inspirational Centrelink Employee’.
The awards honour the many teams and individuals at Centrelink who excel in their work and provide vital and innovative support to the community.
Sue, who is a Team Leader in a Service Recovery team in Ryde, said she was blown away when she’d found out that she’d been announced as an award winner.
"I was very excited and proud to learn that I had received this award," Sue said.
"I work as part of a small team who are incredibly supportive of each other - I feel like this award is a reflection of the entire team’s work."
Sue, who has a disability, was one of just 22 staff to receive an Australia Day Achievement Award from over 27,000 staff.
"The best part of my job is when I can do something that makes a real difference to a person’s life," Sue said.
"Sometimes it’s not about providing people with a payment but about linking them to the services and assistance they need."
Sue’s Manager, Emilija Todorova, said she nominated Sue for the award in recognition of her extraordinary approach to her work.
"None of us who work with her ever think of her in terms of her disability - seeing Sue in action quickly dispels the ‘dis’," Emilija said.
"Sue has always been one of the strongest champions of service delivery who truly centres around the customer and their needs.
"She connects staff to customer's emotions, she connects customers to services they never knew existed and she creates experiences that make a positive difference.
"With miles and miles of heart she is a perfect role model to all - Sue is a true inspiration."
