New South Wales Media Release
Tuesday, 14 September 2010
Young people aged 15 to 24 are invited to kick-start their future careers at the free Career Compass Expo at the Bankstown Town Hall on Wednesday 22 September.
Centrelink Multicultural Services Officer Julian Jeyakumar said visitors can expect an employment expo with a difference.
"There will be guest speakers from a range of industries telling you what it’s really like to be a plumber, or a nurse, or a journalist.
"These industry professionals can also tell you how they got to where they are now and what it’s like to be in their industry.
"Throughout the day there will also be workshops to help you get the edge when looking for a job, covering topics like resume writing and how to dress for an interview."
Julian said visitors can also get some hands-on experience trying a trade at the expo.
"If you’ve always wanted to have a go at a trade, come on down to the expo and join in the interactive demonstrations in hairdressing, painting and decorating, tiling, hospitality and bricklaying.
"There will also be a range of stalls at the expo, with job opportunities and information about education opportunities that will help you get where you want to go," Julian said.
"There will be real jobs up for grabs on the day, so make sure you bring your resume!"
"If you’re interested in attending, you can register your attendance by emailing careercompass2010@gmail.com.
"Career Compass 2010 is a partnership between Centrelink, Bankstown and Canterbury Councils, MTC Work Solutions, Breakthru People Solutions, Max Employment and TAFE NSW.
"The Career Compass Expo will be held from 10 am to 4 pm on Wednesday 22 September at the Bankstown Town Hall.
