Indigenous jobs await at Bankstown Jobs Expo

Thursday, 4 February 2010
Real jobs for Sydney’s Indigenous job seekers will be on offer at the 'Keep Australia Working' Centrelink’s Jobs Expo in Bankstown on Friday, 12 February.
With the Bankstown Town Hall being transformed into a one-stop jobs supermarket for an expected crowd of over 5,000 people, special attention is being focussed on providing employment opportunities for Indigenous people.
Over 80 exhibitors will take part in the expo, bringing with them hundreds of real jobs for job seekers.
An added feature on the day will be the special guest appearance of Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldog’s favourite son, ‘El Magic’ Hazem El Masri as Jobs Expo Ambassador and MC.
Also at the expo on the day will be the Parliamentary Secretary for Employment and Federal Member for Blaxland, the Hon. Jason Clare MP.
Centrelink’s Sydney Indigenous Service manager, Carin Percival, said interest from Indigenous employers in the Expo has been very encouraging.
"With so much interest being generated by the expo from specialist Indigenous employers as well as big and small business in the area, this event promises to provide real employment outcomes for all Australians," said Ms Percival.
"There will be many Indigenous employment opportunities available at the expo. There are real jobs on offer from the likes of the Australian Federal Police, as well as major companies such as Woolworths and Coles, and the Department of Defence, who are all working closely with the Australian Employment Covenant.
"People serious about getting a job or changing their career will never have a better chance to secure their working future."
Ms Percival is encouraging Indigenous job seekers to chat with Hazem, bring along a current 1 page resume, talk to prospective employers and join the many activities organised on the day.
"Aside from the exhibitors and the jobs, we’ll have give-aways, information seminars, a super sausage sizzle and musical entertainment from the fabulous Centrelink Choir. What’s more, it’s all free!" she said.
