Kelly makes the connection in the Monaro

New Centrelink Rural Services Officer (RSO) Kelly Spence is hitting the road in the Monaro region to connect rural residents with Government services and assistance.
In her role as an RSO, Kelly visits customers at their homes, farms and businesses to discuss their individual circumstances and provide confidential information about payments and services.
Living in Goulburn, Kelly has family connections to the land stretching back generations, and she says she’s relishing the opportunity to get out and about across the region.
"I love the aspect of being able to get out and travel, which allows me to appreciate the hardships that are faced by rural people," Kelly said.
"Many people in rural areas find it difficult to visit a Centrelink office, due to farming commitments and isolation.
"Getting out of the office to visit rural customers means they can access Centrelink services in the convenience of their own home or business.
Kelly and other Centrelink RSOs can also provide referrals to other specialist Centrelink services, including the Financial Information Service, Rural Social Workers and other local community support services.
Kelly says living and working in a rural community means she has a strong understanding of the challenges faced by people in rural areas.
"I love being able to make a difference in the lives of rural people who don’t have easy access to assistance," Kelly said.
"It's important to remember that regardless of where you live, services are still accessible."
