Mobile Office diverted to Charleville
Queensland media release
Monday, 22 March 2010
The Australian Government Mobile Office has been diverted to Charleville in southern Queensland to help with the ongoing flood relief effort.
The Mobile Office will operate from beside the Charleville Senior Citizens Centre in Alfred Street, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, March 23 and Wednesday, March 24 but this could be extended depending on the demand for services.
Mobile Office Tour Leader, Debra Inskip says the versatility of the Mobile Office means it can quickly move to regions where Government services are needed during times of natural disasters.
"Many residents in the Charleville area have been affected by these floods and need the support of Government services like Centrelink," Debra said.
"Mobile Office staff will be assisting existing Charleville Centrelink staff in providing the delivery of payments and other services."
Debra said even though the flood situation in southern Queensland has eased, many residents still need support.
"The after effects of any natural disaster like this can be on-going and staff on board the Mobile Office recognise this," she said.
"Centrelink staff are very experienced in working with residents in times like this and we urge all those people who have experienced hardship as a result of the floods to come and see us."
The Mobile Office was due to visit Kilcoy, Nanango, Wondai and Crows Nest this week, but due to the flood emergency this trip has now been postponed until later in the year.
