Media release (Queensland):
A helping hand for Eidsvold residents
Tuesday, 9 November 2010
A special information day in Eidsvold next Wednesday (November 17) will let residents know about the many government and community support services available in their local area.
Centrelink Rural Services Officer Jeff McColl organised the community day following questions from the community about the availability of services.
“Eidsvold is a great place to live for many reasons but there are some difficulties with access that come with living in a smaller town,” Jeff said.
“With limited public transport, for instance, residents can find it hard to access Government services such as Centrelink or Jobs Services Australia.
“Support services are available, but I was finding residents aren’t necessarily aware of them, or at least how they might be of help in their specific circumstances.”
Jeff said the local community centre helped him to connect with the many organisations who agreed to take part, and the response had been overwhelming.
“I’m really keen to link the people of this community to services that could benefit their lifestyle,” Jeff said.
A host of organisations will join Centrelink on the day, including the Child Support Agency, Medicare Australia, Bridges Aligned Service, Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation, Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres, Farm Financial Counselling Service, Bundaberg Family Relationship Centre, Responding Early Assisting Children Program, and Wide Bay Rural Mental Health Service.
The information day will be held at Munjoorum Hall, Moreton Street, Eidsvold, on Wednesday, November 17, from 10 am to 1 pm. A sausage sizzle will be provided.
