Centrelink Tasmania staff hoping to exceed last year’s award-winning fundraising effort

Centrelink staff in Hobart will be cutting it very fine this Friday when they go under the clippers for the 2010 Shave for a Cure Leukaemia Foundation fundraising drive.
Centrelink Tasmania was last year recognised as one of three Tasmanian organisations to make the 2009 World’s Greatest Shave top 30 fundraisers list for Victoria and Tasmania.
Hot on the heels of a huge effort in Launceston last week, around 10 Hobart Centrelink staff have pledged their involvement:
- five female and two male volunteers going for the full head shave down to the skin
- a senior manager prepared to sacrifice his eyebrows if the price is right
- 1 ‘naturally naked’ pate to become a work of art with some body paint
- several staff spraying their hair in a colourful show of support.
This year, around 10,000 people in Australia are expected to be diagnosed with a blood cancer or related blood disorder. Over 40,000 are estimated to live with one now.
Money raised through the World’s Greatest Shave is used by the Leukaemia Foundation to fund free services to support patients and families living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders.
