New low-cost computers offer for Centrelink customers
Tasmania Media Release
Thursday, 6 May 2010
Centrelink customers can now buy low-cost PCs thanks to an ongoing partnership between Centrelink and not-for-profit organisation WorkVentures.
Since early 2008, this partnership has seen more than 15,000 low-cost PCs go to Centrelink customers, allowing access to a world of online opportunity and information.
Now WorkVentures has a new raft of PCs available– internet ready Pentium 4 PCs with Windows XP Pro, Microsoft Office 2003 and technical support from $290 plus delivery.
The WorkVentures PCs are professionally refurbished complete desktop systems which will easily handle all key PC and internet tasks.
Centrelink’s Tasmanian Area Manager Michelle Lees said owning a PC is now within reach of many Centrelink customers thanks to this initiative.
"PC ownership means that Centrelink customers can use Centrelink online services as well as enjoy a range of education, job search, communication and lifestyle benefits," Ms Lees said.
"People have told us they want to be able to do business with us when it suits them, and our online self-service options are designed to meet that demand.
"Students, families, seniors and nominees can all use online self service to do routine business with us, and soon job seekers will be able to as well.
"With more than 4 million customers registered for self service, it makes sense for us to help more customers do Centrelink business in their own time, at their own convenience.
"When a customer uses self service, they’re not only suiting themselves, but freeing up our people so they can help customers with more complex needs, so it’s win-win."
The WorkVentures PCs offer is available to Centrelink concession cardholders, schools and not-for-profit organisations. Flyers are on display at Centrelink offices nationwide.
Centrelink customers interested in purchasing a low-cost PC can contact their local Centrelink office or phone WorkVentures on 1800 112 205.
