Darebin Centrelink Customer Service Centre is joining NAIDOC Week celebrations with a special Customer Service Awards presentation and morning tea.
"The awards are to recognise Darebin Centrelink staff who have demonstrated excellence in Indigenous customer service," said Darebin Indigenous Service Officer Olly Phillips.
"We are excited to be joined by Indigenous community members, including Phil Cooper, the co-chair of the Victorian NAIDOC Committee, and Mr and Miss NAIDOC."
Olly said NAIDOC Week is an important celebration for Centrelink, with many events being held around the country.
"NAIDOC Week is an important time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
"It’s also a great opportunity for us to recognise the Centrelink staff who have made a valuable contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers and communities," Olly said.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July, and this year’s theme is 'Unsung Heroes - Closing the Gap by Leading Their Way'.
"The theme of ‘Unsung Heroes' recognises the part played by the quiet achievers in the Indigenous community, both now and in the past," Olly said.
"And we’re proud of our own unsung heroes, the Centrelink staff who are committed to ensuring our Indigenous customers receive high quality services."
