Information session for Paragon workers

Centrelink has announced a free information session for Paragon Printing workers who have been stood down from employment.
The session will be held on Tuesday, 30 March at Wodonga TAFE, Valley Restaurant, 87 McKoy Street, Wodonga at 9:30 am.
Albury Centrelink Manager, Mandi McDonald, said while Centrelink has been contacting the affected workers directly, there were many workers who had not yet spoken to Centrelink.
"We understand this can be a really difficult time for Paragon workers and their families, but we urge all those affected to attend the seminar so they better understand their options," Mandi said.
The session planned for Tuesday will be held in collaboration with members of Job Services Australia and will outline the variety of services available to help people whose employment situation is uncertain.
"The sessions are about providing workers with all the information they need to know about the range of Centrelink support available, so they can better plan for the future," Mandi said.
"There is information that workers should know, such as the potential impact a redundancy payment or returning to work may have on their entitlements.
"This is a particularly difficult situation due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Paragon. Centrelink has been working closely with the company to monitor developments and to ensure affected workers receive as much support as possible."
Mandi said workers should not rule themselves out of assistance before discussing their individual circumstances with someone from Centrelink.
"Centrelink will look at a person's personal circumstances to work out what payments they may be entitled to, what waiting periods may apply and what other support services are available," she said.
"Depending on personal circumstances, someone looking for work may be eligible for Newstart Allowance or Youth Allowance. Centrelink Financial Information Service Officers can discuss other support such as low-income health care cards.
"Centrelink social workers are also available to help individuals and families through this transition."
Affected workers can also call the Centrelink Employment Services number on 13 2850.
