Young people aged 12 to 25 in Derby are being celebrated at a special event for National Youth Week organised by Centrelink, in conjunction with the Derby Youth Centre and Jobs Service Australia providers.
This year’s theme for National Youth Week is ‘Live it now’, and the celebrations run nationally from 10-18 April 2010.
Centrelink Derby Manager, John Dempster, said the event gives youths an opportunity to access information about programs and services available in Derby, including traineeships and apprenticeships.
“Youth Week is also the perfect time for local young people to find out about important recent changes to Youth Allowance and other student payments,” John said.
Centrelink plays an important role providing a range of services and payments to support young people in the area.
Some of the changes are already in place from April 2010, including a Student Start-up Scholarship for full time university students receiving Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY.
There’s no better time than Youth Week for young people and their families to check out changes to income support for students for more information.
