2UE talkback caller correction: no $20 400 one-off payment:

National Media Release
Wednesday, 30 June 2004

Centrelink National Manager, Hank Jongen, today confirmed that no Centrelink customers have received a one-off Family Payment of $20 400, as suggested by a talkback caller on 2UE this morning.

"A caller to the John Laws program suggested a person they knew had received a one-off Family Payment of $20 400 because of a Centrelink error," said Mr Jongen.

"Centrelink has investigated this claim and found no evidence that a one-off Family Payment of
$20 400 was issued.

"I'm happy to look into the particular circumstances of this case but we have been unable to obtain the talkback caller's details or those of the customer referred to."

In relation to the issue of double payments, Mr Jongen said less than 2 000, or less than 0.1 per cent of the 2 million families who received the $600 payment, have been affected.

"Centrelink encourages customers who think they've been paid twice to get in touch with us," he said.

"They can do this by visiting their nearest Centrelink office or by phoning the Family Assistance Office on 13 6150."
