National Media Release
Wednesday, 10 November 2004
Centrelink CEO Sue Vardon is to be congratulated for the significant contribution she has made to Australian Government service delivery, the Minister for Human Services, Joe Hockey, said today.
Ms Vardon has performed an outstanding job establishing Centrelink over the past eight years and I respect her decision to return home to South Australia to be with her family and young grandchildren.
Ms Vardon was critical to the successful establishment of the customer-focused organisation that Centrelink is today.
Centrelink serves a third of Australia's population and Ms Vardon has done a great job in building the organisation into the human face of government that is respected around the world.
Ms Vardon has long been a champion of high quality service delivery and through the new Department of Human Services the Federal Government will continue the process of improving the delivery of government services.
Earlier this year Ms Vardon was honoured on Australia Day by receiving an Order of Australia award for service to the development and delivery of community support services and for contributions to public sector governance.
On behalf of the Australian Government, I thank Ms Vardon for her service to the community and wish her every future success.
