E G Green & Sons workers urged to contact Centrelink:

Western Australia Media Release
Thursday, 8 September 2005

Centrelink staff will be located at the Harvey Telecentre each day, encouraging workers affected by today's announcement to phone Centrelink on 13 2850 straight away.

"The most important thing workers who have been retrenched can do is get in touch with Centrelink as soon as possible," said Bunbury Centrelink Manager, Lew Whitmore.

"Workers should not rule themselves out of receiving payments because they think they may not be entitled – the best thing to do is contact Centrelink as soon as possible.

"Once workers make contact with us, Centrelink staff will be able to discuss their personal circumstances and assess their eligibility for assistance and support while they look for other work.

"This is obviously a very difficult time for the affected workers and their families and Centrelink will be doing all it can to offer assistance.

"Centrelink staff are very experienced in handling these types of situations and understand how stressful this time can be for affected workers and their families."

Centrelink is the gateway to the Job Network and can help affected workers access expert assistance to look for work.

Social work assistance is also available for workers at Centrelink offices or over the phone.

"But for workers immediately affected, the message is to make contact with us as soon as possible," said Lew.

Affected workers should call Centrelink as soon as possible on 13 2850.
