From 10 December, Centrelink will automatically subscribe customers to the SMS and email reminder service when they:
- provide a new mobile phone number or email address; or
- update an existing mobile phone number or email address; or
- make a claim for a payment or service and already have a mobile phone number or email address on their Centrelink contact details; or
- make a claim for a payment or service and provide mobile phone number or email address details with that claim.
We send reminders to get important information to you quickly and we’ll only send you messages that are related to your circumstances. You will not be required to respond by SMS or email to any of the messages you receive.
The types of messages we may send you are:
- appointment reminders
- reminders to provide up to date information
- reminders to provide documents
- notification you have a new online letter (If you are subscribed for this service).
If you would like to subscribe to the SMS and email reminders service, you are able to subscribe online, over the phone or at a Customer Service Centre. To subscribe online, you will need to be registered for Online Services (or register for Online Services), log on and select ‘Reminders & Letters’ and then select ‘Reminders and Letters Subscription’ from the menu.
If you do not want to receive SMS or email reminders, you can choose to opt out in a number of ways.
If you are registered for Online Services, you can opt out by logging on and going to ‘Reminders and Letters’ and then ‘Reminders and Letters Subscriptions’.
You can opt out by calling the ‘Opt Out’ service on 1800 199575 and following the prompts. You will need your Customer Access Number (CAN) to use this service.
