Note: If you have registered for online services at a Customer Service Centre or over the phone, you can log on to online services now using your Customer Access Number (CAN) and the temporary password provided.
Before you start
In order to protect your privacy we will ask you some questions that confirm information that you have previously provided to us.
You may need the following items to answer the questions asked:
- a recent letter from Centrelink and/or the Family Assistance Office
- a recent statement from your bank where your Centrelink and/or Family Assistance Office Payments are sent
- your concession card if you have one (e.g. Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Health Care Card)
- any documents that you have presented to Centrelink as Proof of Identity (e.g. driver's licence or passport).
How to register as a customer
You can register as a customer for online services by selecting the register for online services link located under the log on button at the right of your screen.
Registration steps
Follow the registration steps:
- identify yourself using your Customer Reference Number (CRN), if you have one
- answer questions about yourself and your Centrelink record, to help us verify your identity
- confirm your access level
- choose your password for online services
- set your Personal Identification Number (PIN) for phone services (optional)
- create your secret questions and answers which can help if you forget your password
- be provided with a Customer Access Number (CAN) if you don’t already have one
- receive information about how to log on to use online services
- follow the prompts to complete the registration process.
Secret questions and answers
You need to provide 5 secret questions and answers when you register for online services. These are used for protection over your personal and sensitive information.
You will need to correctly answer a secret question each time you log on and if you need to reset your password. Once logged on, you can manage your own secret questions and answers.
If you are already registered
If you have registered for online services at a Customer Service Centre or over the phone, you do not need to register again. You can log on to online services now using your Customer Access Number (CAN) and the temporary password provided. You will need to choose a new password when you log on for the first time. If you have forgotten your password or CAN you will need to contact us.

How to register as a nominee
If you are already registered as a customer for online services you can simply add Nominee Access once logged in. This registration gives you access to your own account online and the person you are a nominee for.
Steps to add Nominee Access:
- select the log on button and enter your Customer Access Number (CAN) and password
- select "Self Service Access"
- select "Nominee Access to Online Services Registration" from the menu
- log out and log in again to access Nominee Online Services
If you are not already registered as a customer for online services you can select the Register for online services link located under the log on button at the right of your screen. Complete the registration process by selecting yes you want to Register for Nominee Access to online services when prompted. You can also use this method to register as a nominee if you are already registered for online services as a customer.
You will need to have the details of the customer/s you are a nominee for, including:
- your Customer Reference Number (CRN)
- their Customer Reference Number (CRN) and your nominee password/s
You will also need to answer questions about yourself and the customer/s you are a nominee for during the registration process.
Once registered, you can log on to online services using your Customer Access Number (CAN) and your password. Once logged in, you will be presented with the "Select who you wish to act for" page where you can choose to act for yourself or a customer you are a nominee for.
