You need to have a minimum access level of 2 to report your employment income using online services. What happens if I can't report my employment income on time?

If you cannot report your employment income online, by phone or returning a form to an office by 5.00pm (local time) on your reporting date, or you report your employment income late, your payment may be delayed.

You cannot report your employment income using online services if it is more than six (6) days after your reporting date, or more than three (3) days after if you are receiving Newstart Allowance or Youth Allowance (job seekers only). You will need to complete your "Application for Payment" form and return it to your nearest Centrelink Customer Service Centre or call Centrelink to advise a Customer Service Officer about your employment income.

If you are a student or an Australian Apprentice you cannot report your employment income using online services if it is more than thirteen 13 days after your reporting date. You will need to contact Centrelink to advise a Customer Service Advisor about your employment income.

Do I need to report hours worked?

If you are receiving one of the following payments you will have to include your hours worked:

  • Disability Support Pension
  • Mobility Allowance
  • Newstart Allowance
  • Youth Allowance (job seekers only)
  • Special Benefit
  • Wife Pension
  • Sickness Allowance

When reporting your earnings and hours worked online, you will need to round the hours up to the nearest whole hour.

For example, if you worked 4.75 hours, report the total number of hours you worked as 5 hours. The process of rounding hours does not affect the amount of payment you receive.

When reporting hours worked online, the service will not accept more than ninety nine (99) hours. This does not affect the amount of payment you receive.

Do I still have to complete and return my "Application for Payment" form?

If you report your employment income and activity test obligations (if applicable) using online services, you will receive a receipt number at the end of the process. This means you do not have to return your "Application for Payment" form for that fortnight.

You will however still receive your "Application for Payment" forms by mail. You might like to use these forms to note your details for your own records.

If you do not successfully report your employment income using online services (for example, you did not get a receipt number at the end), you will need to complete your "Application for Payment" form as usual and return it to your nearest Centrelink Customer Service Centre before you can be paid.

If you have to provide activity test details, it is important to keep a record of the employers you have contacted as Centrelink may ask for these later.
