Payment rates
The maximum rate of Bereavement Allowance is $755.50 a fortnight which includes a pension supplement of $60.20 a fortnight. This payment rate is effective from 20 March 2012.
If you were in receipt of a pension on 19 September 2009 you may be assessed under transitional arrangements and you may be eligible for a different rate of payment.
You are paid for up to 14 weeks after the death of your partner. If you are pregnant when your partner dies, you may get Bereavement Allowance for the duration of your pregnancy.
Income and assets
The amount of Bereavement Allowance you get depends on your income and assets.
Payment adjustments
Bereavement Allowance is usually adjusted on 20 March and 20 September each year in line with the Consumer Price Index - that is, in line with increases in the costs of living.
