Income and assets tests for Carer Payment

Carer Payment is subject to an income test and assets test depending on whether you are a carer or a person being cared for. The 2 tests appear below. These income and assets tests are effective from 1 July 2009.

Income test - carer

• View the income test for pensions.

Income test - person being cared for

• Refer to income test for pensions, unless the person is not an Income Support Pension or Service Pension recipient in which case a special care receiver income test applies.

Assets test - carer

• Homeowners refer to assets test for homeowners.
• Non-homeowners refer to assets test for non-homeowners.
• Hardship provisions may apply.

Assets test - person being cared for

• Refer to assets test for homeowners or the assets test for non-homeowners, unless the person is not an Income Support or Service Pension recipient in which case a special care receiver assets test applies.
