When to claim
You should submit your claim for Double Orphan Pension through the Family Assistance Office as soon as possible.
You can also register an intent to claim for Double Orphan Pension. You should then submit your claim within 14 days. This will help you get paid from the earliest possible date.
Note: You can only be paid from the date that you register your intent to claim or lodge your completed claim form.
Someone to act on your behalf
A family member or friend can phone us on your behalf to register an intent to claim.
Note: To authorise a person to act on your behalf when dealing with Centrelink, or who can receive your payments, refer to someone to deal with Centrelink for you.
Claim form
For a Double Orphan Pension claim form, you can:
- print out the claim for Double Orphan Pension form
- phone us on 13 6150
- visit your nearest Family Assistance Office at Centrelink.
Documentation
When lodging your claim we may ask for extra information to assess your entitlement. You may be asked to provide proof of your income and depending on your circumstances, your partner's income. You will also need to provide proof of identity for yourself, your partner (if you have one) and for the child or children being cared for.
You will need to provide any verification documents requested within 14 days. The sooner we receive your documents, the sooner we can process your claim.

Returning your form
Return your completed form, proof of identity, and any other documents we have asked for to your nearest Family Assistance Office at Centrelink or Medicare.

Claim outcome
The Family Assistance Office will send you a letter advising if your claim is successful. If you are eligible for Double Orphan Pension, the letter will also tell you when your payment starts and how much you will get.
If you disagree with a decision we make
You always have the right to appeal any decision made by the Family Assistance Office.
