Family Tax Benefit supplements
Family Tax Benefit Part A and Family Tax Benefit Part B both include a supplement payment.
The supplement will be paid automatically after you and your partner have lodged your tax returns with the Australian Taxation Office and the Family Assistance Office has balanced your Family Tax Benefit payments.
If you and your partner are not required to lodge a tax return you need to advise the Family Assistance Office. Your supplement will be paid after your payments for the financial year have been balanced.
The supplement is available to all families that are eligible for Family Tax Benefit. However, where families have received too much Family Tax Benefit or Child Care Benefit, the supplement will be used to offset the amount owing. The supplement may also be used to recover Family Tax Benefit and Child Care Benefit overpayments from other years or to recover outstanding tax debts. The amount of supplement payable may vary depending on family income or circumstances.
If your child is turning four years old and you and/or your partner receive an income support payment from Centrelink or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, your supplement may be withheld if your child does not undergo a health check to ensure they are healthy, fit and ready to learn when they start school or you fail to advise the Family Assistance Office that your child has undergone a health check.
