Your interview
If you have registered your intent to claim, a Centrelink Customer Service Adviser will contact you to begin the claim process. If you have called or visited a Centrelink office, a Centrelink Customer Service Adviser will ask you some questions relating to your circumstances to help assess your entitlement. This includes, for example, details of your income (and your partner’s).
If you have ceased worked in the last 12 months you will need to get an Employment Separation Certificate. We can help you get this from your ex-employer if you have trouble obtaining it.
Centrelink will then advise you of the best way to complete your claim. This may be by a booked appointment or a walk-in appointment depending on the office you wish to attend.
We will also tell you if there are other documents and forms you need to provide. You will need to submit these within 14 days. The sooner we receive your documents, the sooner we can work out your entitlement.
Before your interview it is a good idea to read information you need to know about your claim for Parenting Payment.
