How much Pharmaceutical Allowance do I get? This payment rate is effective from 20 September 2008. Please Note: Pharmaceutical Allowance is a non-taxable payment of $5.80 a fortnight for single and $2.90 a fortnight for each eligible member of a couple ($5.80 combined), which is included in your pension, allowance or benefit payment. If you need a lot of medicines, it is a good idea to keep a record of how much you pay for your prescriptions. When you have paid for 58 prescription medicines through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) in a calendar year, all Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme medicines are free for the rest of the year. If you receive a pension, have very limited means and use a lot of prescriptions, you can apply to receive your Pharmaceutical Allowance in advance. A maximum of seven fortnightly instalments can be advanced. Did you find what you were looking for?
