You should submit your claim for Pensioner Education Supplement or ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement as soon as possible, so that we can pay you from the earliest possible date.
You can also register an intent to claim Pensioner Education Supplement or ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement before your course starts. This will help you get your payment from the earliest possible date.
Waiting for approval of your pension or payment
If you are waiting for approval of a pension or payment from Centrelink or the Department of Veterans' Affairs that is a requirement for you to qualify for Pensioner Education Supplement or ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement (see Eligibility), your claim for Pensioner Education Supplement or ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement may be rejected.
If your claim for Pensioner Education Supplement is rejected, you should contact Centrelink within 13 weeks of the rejection to ensure your Pensioner Education Supplement can be backdated when your pension or payment is approved.
If you have claimed ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement, and have had your initial claim rejected, there is no closing date for additional information. Therefore, you can reclaim ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement at any stage once your pension or payment has been granted.
Claiming with forms
For a Pensioner Education Supplement claim form, you can:
- print out the claim for Pensioner Education Supplement form
- phone us on 13 2490
- visit your nearest Centrelink Customer Service Centre
For an ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement claim form, you can:
- refer to ABSTUDY claim forms and information
- phone us on 13 2317 to claim ABSTUDY or request a paper claim form
- visit your nearest Centrelink Customer Service Centre

Documentation
If you are receiving a Department of Veterans' Affairs qualifying payment for Pensioner Education Supplement or ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement, you will need to provide proof of identity.
We will also tell you if there are other documents and forms you need to provide. You will need to submit these within 14 days. The sooner we receive your documents, the sooner we can process your claim.
Claim outcome
We will send you a letter advising if your claim is successful. If you are eligible for Pensioner Education Supplement or ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement, the letter will also tell you when your payment starts and how much you will get.
If you disagree with a decision we make
You always have the right to appeal any decision made by Centrelink.
