What Residence Requirements does Crisis Payment have?

On the day you claim, you must be:

  • in Australia, and
  • residing in Australia on a permanent basis, and
  • an Australian citizen, or
  • the holder of a permanent resident visa, or
  • the holder of a Special Category Visa - someone who arrived on a NZ passport and who is NOT affected by the changes to residence requirements (see below), or
  • the holder of a specified sub-class of visa that qualifies you for Special Benefit

Please note: If you are claiming Crisis Payment for Humanitarian Entrants, you must hold one of the following qualifying humanitarian visas:

  • subclass 200 - Refugee
  • subclass 201 - In-Country Special Humanitarian
  • subclass 202 - Global Special Humanitarian
  • subclass 203 - Emergency Rescue, or
  • subclass 204 - Woman at Risk

You can claim a Crisis Payment if you are a new or existing Centrelink customer.

Please Note: Changes to the Australian residence requirements MAY affect New Zealand citizens claiming payments in Australia. Current customers are NOT affected by this change.
