How do I Register for the Pension Bonus Scheme?

You need to complete an application to register for PBS membership.

You can do this by visiting your local Centrelink Customer Service Centre or by phoning 13 2300.

Registration Guidelines

You do not have to satisfy any income or assets tests at the time of registration. The registration form does, however, seek information to work out:

  • the likely period of time you are expecting to defer your pension
  • whether you and/or your partner are likely to meet the work test requirements
  • whether you are qualified for Age Pension and can begin accruing bonus periods
  • whether you are likely to be better off by deferring your pension.

Depending on individual circumstances, you may be better off claiming a part pension (and receiving a Pensioner Concession Card (PCC)) immediately, rather than seeking a bonus.

The above is an important consideration and should be explored, if necessary, with a Financial Information Service (FIS) officer at the time of registration.
