Payments
Income and assets
The amount of Sickness Allowance you get depends on both your and your partner's (if you have one) income and assets. These income and assets tests are effective from 1 January 2012.
Income test
Your income affects the amount of payment you receive.
- Refer to allowances income test.
Assets test
An asset is any property or possession you own either partly or wholly. It includes assets held outside Australia and debts owing to you.
- Refer to assets test for homeowners if you own or are buying your own home.
- Refer to assets test for non-homeowners if you are renting or boarding.
- Payment may be deferred when your liquid assets exceed $3,000 (if you are single) or $6,000 (if you are a couple or single with dependants).
- Hardship provisions may apply.
