Employment Service for Age Pensioners — assistance to help you return to work

From 1 July 2007, the Australian Government will make available 2500 places for Employment Service for Age Pensioners.

What is Employment Service for Age Pensioners?

Employment Service for Age Pensioners is a new initiative to help those Age Pensioners who wish to voluntarily return to work on a full-time or part-time basis.

It will be delivered through Job Network and consists of two services delivered over a six month period: the Employment Preparation service in the first three months, and 100 hours of Job Search training in the remaining three months.

Help is individually tailored to meet the needs of Age Pensioners and may include:

  • assessment of your current skills
  • payment of course fees to upgrade your skills
  • support and mentoring
  • job search skills
  • help with resumes, interview techniques and job application skills
  • expanding your employment networks
  • practical job search activities
  • access to resources such as telephones and computers.

Employment Service for Age Pensioners is a positive step toward addressing the needs of a changing workplace and increasing skills shortages in many occupations.

The programme complements other Australian Government initiatives to remove barriers to employment for older workers and recognises that people of Age Pension age make a valuable contribution to the workforce.

Will I still get Age Pension if I participate?

If you participate in Employment Service for Age Pensioners, you will remain on the Age Pension and continue to have access to all applicable Age Pension benefits.

What should I do if I am interested in participating?

You should contact your local Job Network organisation, or telephone 13 6268 for information on provider locations. You do not need a referral from Centrelink to Job Network.
