About Green Corps
Green Corps is an Australian Government development and environmental approved program of work for income support recipients.
Green Corps provides job seekers of all ages with the opportunity to volunteer their commitment to conserve, preserve and restore Australia's natural environment and cultural heritage.
The Australian Government has contracted Job Services Australia providers to deliver the program nationally. These providers are responsible for providing places each year, selecting participants, establishing and supervising projects and providing field support to the Green Corps teams.
What each Green Corps project involves
A Green Corps placement may be with a team on a group activity with other job seekers, or an individual placement. Green Corps may offer opportunities for structured training where appropriate and available.
These activities will give participants the opportunity to work with the local community and will have an environmental or heritage theme.
What participants can gain from Green Corps
Green Corps participants will gain improved career and employment prospects through on-the-job training and personal development opportunities. They will also learn effective teamwork and leadership skills. Green Corps also benefits the community and the environment through:
- strengthening links between people and the community
- encouraging local Indigenous and non-Indigenous community involvement in Green Corps projects.
Who is eligible to join a Green Corps project
People of any age who are registered with a Job Services Australia provider are eligible to participate in Green Corps at any time, if both you and your provider agree it will benefit you.
Some people on income support payments will have certain participation or Activity Test requirements (such as people with an Intensive Activity or Work Experience Activity Requirement). Job seekers may be able to participate in Green Corps to meet these requirements. Your Job Services Australia provider will advise you if you need to undertake these requirements.
All Green Corps participants receiving an income support payment will receive a supplement payment of $20.80 per fortnight.
How to apply
If you are a job seeker interested in participating in Green Corps you should discuss this with your Job Services Australia provider.
