Green Corps - Young Australians for the Environment:
What is Green Corps?Green Corps is an Australian Government youth development and environmental training program for young people aged between 17-20 years. Green Corps provides young people with the opportunity to volunteer their commitment to conserve, preserve and restore Australia's natural environment and cultural heritage. The service providers are responsible for providing 1740 places each year, selecting participants, establishing and supervising projects and providing field support to the Green Corps teams. What does each Green Corps project involve? Each Green Corps project involves 10 young people in a range of activities and experiences over a 26 week period. Green Corps participants get a training allowance and participate in projects mostly located in rural and remote areas. Each project will have a major activity that operates for 14 weeks. This major activity will be supported by other activities that all have a common theme, strategy or plan. Each project will also have group activities nominated and developed by Green Corps participants. These group activities will give participants the opportunity to work with the local community and will have an environmental or heritage theme.
