Indigenous Specialist Officers

Centrelink's services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who live in metropolitan, rural and remote communities include a network of Indigenous servicing staff and Remote Visiting Teams who:

  • help Indigenous groups, communities and individuals to access government programs through Centrelink services and other resources
  • visit Indigenous peoples to facilitate the delivery of income support payments to ensure they receive their correct entitlements
  • ensure Indigenous Peoples (including Community Development Employment Project participants) are provided with equitable access to the full range of employment related services delivered by Centrelink and that these services are delivered in an appropriate way (whether in metropolitan, rural or remote locations)
  • inform Indigenous peoples of Centrelink services and other programs developed to assist families and encourage the development of community projects to strengthen families and communities
  • facilitate, coordinate and/or help Indigenous peoples to access other agencies' services and linkages with other agencies.
